Real Madrid and Spain international defender Sergio Ramos has been in the news lately for his penalty convertion expertise.
The inspirational captain netted his 22nd successive career penalty against Athletic Bilbao at the weekend, an awesome record for a defender who has converted 30 of 34 career spot kicks and has only ever once had his effort saved, Croatian goalkeeper Danijel Subasic with that honour.
However, while Ramos might be the man of the moment, have there been other defenders who could comfortably rival the Spaniard?
Fernando Hierro, Gerard Pique, Franco Baresi, Frank Leboeuf, Ronald Koeman, Taye Taiwo and a few other name’s are standout challengers to Ramos’ crown.
In your opinion, which defender do you regard as the greatest ever when it comes to converting penalty kicks?
