UEFA Champions League round of 16 review

Bayern Munich completed the routine job of knocking out Chelsea from the UEFA Champions League beating the Blues 4-1 in the second-leg fixture at the Allianz Arena.

The Londoners already had a huge task of overturning the tie after losing 3-0 in the reverse fixture at the Bridge.

Things got off to a torrid start for Chelsea as Robert Lewandowski won and converted from the spot.

The Pole turned provider setting up Ivan Perisic to double the lead before Tammy Abraham reduced the deficit just before the break, latching on to Manuel Neuer’s spilled attempted save.

Two further second-half goals from Corentin Tolisso and Lewandowski condemned a depleted Chelsea to an unavoidable defeat.

Barcelona beat Napoli 3-1 at Camp Nou to setup a mouthwatering UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against Bayern Munich.

The tie ended 4-2 on aggregate with the Spaniards progressing as they aim for a fifth continental title in 14 years.

Three first-half goals from Clement Lenglet, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez rendered Lorenzo Insigne’s penalty just before the break a mere consolation.
