UEFA Champions League final preview and prediction

Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bayern Munich

Date: 23/8/2020

Venue: Estadio da Luz, Lisbon

Time: 8:00pm

French champions Paris Saint-Germain take on German champions Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League final on Sunday night.

The two teams’ road to the final was relatively similar, both displaying dominance and superiority, although the Bavarians slightly have the upper hand as they are unbeaten in the competition, winning all 10 straight matches, while PSG have drawn once –in the group-stage- and were beaten by Borussia Dortmund in the first-leg round of 16 tie in Germany.

Bayern are considered favourites as they parade a devastating forward line, spearheaded by competition top goalscorer Robert Lewandowski, who has netted 15 times and is only two strikes away from equalling the all-time record for most goals scored in a campaign.

The Parisians themselves aren’t lacking in attacking quality, standout talents Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria and Mauro Icardi all capable of causing havoc on any defence on their good day.

That could be a major problem for a Bayern team whose defence is their weakest link and the reported injury to stalwart Jerome Boateng and his expected replacement in the line-up Niklas Sule, who has only just returned from a long-term injury and could be lacking the match sharpness to keep the rampaging PSG attackers at bay.

Perhaps the key battle of the night will see young, explosive pair Alphonso Davies and Mbappe square up against in each other in an exciting personal duel, while Ivan Perisic and Serge Gnabry will keep PSG full-back’s Thilo Kehrer and Juan Bernat on their toes for the duration of the game.

One thing is certain; PSG will repeatedly test a Bayern defence that likes to keep a high line and while they get behind the backline, they must convert their chances, Neymar the chief culprit with big misses in the last two games.

We predict a very open game, both teams to score, usual suspects Lewandowski and Gnabry to find the back of the net for the Germans and Bayern to outscore PSG in this epic final.

Prediction: PSG 2 – 4 Bayern
