The 2019/20 English Premier League season came to a befitting conclusion on Sunday, expectedly the yearly drama at the top and bottom grabbing the headline’s.
Gbamm! Takes a look at some interesting numbers across board from the just ended season.
1-Liverpool’s first-ever Premier League title win in the club’s illustrious history. The record-setting campaign was however threatened by the Coronavirus outbreak and they have the stakeholders to thank for not cancelling the league when pressured at the peak of the pandemic.
2- Most red cards received by players in the Premier League. Fernandinho (Manchester City vs. Aston Villa, Manchester City vs. Chelsea), Christian Kabasele (Watford vs. Norwich City, Watford vs. Wolverhampton) and David Luiz (Arsenal vs. Chelsea, Arsenal vs. Manchester City).
3- Number of managers sacked by Watford during the course of the season. Javi Gracia, Quique Sanchez Flores and Nigel Pearson.
4- Number of African’s to have won the 2019/20 Premier League title with Liverpool. Sadio Mane (Senegal), Mohamed Salah (Egypt), Joel Matip (Cameroon) and Naby Keita (Guinea).
5- Number of Manchester City players who scored 10+ goals in the just ended season, a league record. Raheem Sterling (20), Sergio Aguero (16), Gabriel Jesus (14), Kevin De Bruyne (13) and Riyad Mahrez (11).
6- Tottenham Hotspur’s league position which earned them a UEFA Europa League ticket after a turbulent start to the season. It was also the second time in Jose Mourinho’s Premier League managerial career he finished in sixth-place; coincidentally the previous occurrence happened also during his first campaign at Manchester United (2016/17).
7- Number of successive defeats for Crystal Palace post the lockdown from nine matches.
8- Number of goals Manchester City scored in the biggest home win of the season. Manchester City 8 vs. 0 Watford (21 September, 2019).
9- Number of English managers in the just concluded season, with only one of them getting the sack and the others were in-charge from start to finish. Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Chris Wilder (Sheffield United), Sean Dyche (Burnley), Steve Bruce (Newcastle United), Roy Hodgson (Crystal Palace), Graham Potter (Brighton), Dean Smith (Aston Villa), Eddie Howe (Bournemouth) and Nigel Pearson (Watford).
10- Number of seasons Spanish playmaker David Silva spent in the Premier League playing for Manchester City before his farewell match against Norwich City on Sunday.
11- Number of hat-tricks scored during the course of the campaign, Raheem Sterling the only player to net a treble more than once. Sterling (Manchester City-2), Teemu Pukki (Norwich City), Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic (Chelsea), Bernardo Silva, Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Ayoze Perez, Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Anthony Martial (Manchester United) and Michail Antonio (West Ham United).
